VSA, or Višnjan School of Astronomy is a summer astronomical practicum which is taking place at Višnjan Observatory, near Poreè (Parenzo). VSA started as the practicum in 1989 and it represents one continuous experiment in trying to combine youth education and science. There is no usual strictness but instead the young are accepted as colleagues in exploration work. VSA was started by Višnjan Observatory as a result of experience and hard work of its organisers, especially by Korado Korleviæ, Petar Radovan and Zoran Iveziæ-Passini. During nine years many celestial events were observed and VSA was even in the center of big astronomical and scientific moments (i.e. Perseids 1992 and 1993, Shoemaker-Levy comet hitting the Jupiter in 1996). Don’t forget the year 1996, when VSA made photometric observations of the Nova Sagitarii 1996 almost alone for ten days.
