Report MACE 2002

The first MACE 2002 ended!
PROCEEDINGS

When the idea if the "First European asteroid and comet observers meeting" started, the situation seems dark. In the contrast with the astronomical potential, numerous observers, the interest to meet together was not sure.
The attendance of 62 participants from 12
European countries and a guest from the Canada/USA region, was a nice surprise and great result!  The meeting part was a really pleasure for many, to encounter the people known only from the e-mail communications before.
On the meeting, a variety of presentation,
posters and many interesting talks, give new view on future projects, instruments modification, work on the S/N edge, professional and nonprofessional astronomer's cooperation.
The general idea was that the time to change the quantity to quality just come, and that could be the way to "push" the cooperation between the European observatories.
The feeling was that the new instruments/software/methods could really start to change the way the community worked.

As few of the observatories have mainly educational character the exchange of students/pupils was also discussed. Last but not least, as the encounter planed as meeting, give us a lot of time to spend together during excursions, meals and degustations, and these "secondary" character was judged as very successful also.  Wit that purposes an excursion to the old Pola observatory was held (making also a short tour of the Pula City, visiting the most famous monuments from the time of the Roman Empire – see the QuickTime movies panorama). Also the participants made a short excursions to the Lim Bay natural preserve and some typical gastronomic sites located in the western part of the Istra peninsula.

To push future cooperation, the next three MACE meeting are  proposed to be held in:
MACE 2003 - Palma de Mallorca (Spain)
MACE 2004 - Frasso Sabino (Italy)
MACE 2005 – Vienna (Austria)
