The Visnjan Observatory astrometry program had started after few years that we spent to make the replacement of the telescope for an old
one, lost during the 1993 war in the city of Sarajevo. We started with a lot of problems, but thanks to practice at the Farra Observatory , "Open Society Foundation" camera donation, Herbert Raab "Astrometrica" software, moral support from GIA and the supervision by MPC-s, Gareth Williams, the program produced the first line of astrometric measurement in 1995.
After the theory of impact of asteroids with Earth had been widely accepted , the Spaceguard Foundation became reality, and we decided to start with a low budget NEO survey in our free time. The survey was hampered by the weather condition and time devoted to the public in a visit at the Visnjan observatory or students workshops held here. |

After few years, our program has given us a lot of satisfaction and considering our hardware and other resources, we can be even more than satisfied by the results, being one of top ten world observatories in the 1999 according to the number of measurements sent to the MPC. The future:
Currently, we can see several possible developments of our program: |

1.) Be present in the small bodies astrometry field as long as the present equipment permits?
2.)
Continue to rise the new observatory out of the city, with better telescope and continue the astrometry work, especially followup of NEO objects?
3.)
End the astrometry program under the pressure of the "big guys", and try to find an ecological niche where a small telescope can give useful results?
